ENGW - E Norfolk Glazed ware
Very hard, well-fired sandy ware. Abundant silt to fine sandy, sparse coarse sub-angular and sub-rounded quartz sand (c.0.5–1mm) and sparse fine soft red ferrous inclusions, rare sub-angular flint. Typically oxidised externally to a depth of c.1–2mm and reduced internally (pale whitish grey to dark grey, occasionally pale buff).
An unglazed variant of this ware has been recorded at Gorleston as YARMCW, with a pale version given the fabric code YARMCWL. The fabric falls within the range of 'early LMT' (ELMT).
Sample from Beeston St Andrew (NDR MCW2).
